Dendrobium orchid

Dendrobium orchids are a very special and beloved class of orchids. The genus Dendrobium includes many and impressive hybrids. They are quite different from the well-known Phalaenopsis, both for their different morphology and for the fact that they go dormant in the winter. They come from Southeast Asia and in their natural environment are epiphytes.

Fertilizations should be stopped at the beginning of autumn and then the cares continue according to the needs of the plant. It must be observed frequently and as soon as it stops growing, watering should also be stopped. It should then be placed outside but protected to be exposed to low temperatures for about two months. As soon as the temperatures approach frost we place it in a place with light but protected from it   frost. When the flowering buds begin to grow again, watering begins gradually. If during dormancy, the shoots wrinkle, then it is a sign that the plant needs water and therefore we water with a little water or spray the surface of the substrate. The flowers appear around the stems and along them. The shoots bearing the flowering buds should not be pruned after flowering because there is a possibility that they will give a second flowering the following year. Flowering, in this genus, occurs every year and is timed at the end of winter and beginning of spring. After the end of flowering, new shoots appear at the base and grow, until the plant gradually enters a state of dormancy.
